Connecting and Setting Up the QL-720NW Label Printer:
To get started, connect the power cable to the back of the QL-720NW and then plug the power cable into a wall plug.
Hold the Brother QL-720NW by the front of the machine, and firmly lift the DK Roll compartment cover to open the cover.
Next, enter in the spool of DK11204 labels into the roll compartment. Please ensure that the spool arms are inserted firmly on both the right and left hand side.
Thread the end of the DK11204 Roll into the front slot. Align the end of the roll with the upright edge of the label output slot.
And lastly, close the DK11204 Roll compartment cover. And hold down the ON/OFF button to turn the printer on.
Connect the USB cable from the back of the QL720-NW into a USB Port on your Mac.
Installing the Software:
Insert the CD that came in the Brother QL-720NW Printer into your PC's CD-ROM drive and install the P-Touch Editor Software using the Standard Instillation Option.
If your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive you can download the latest drivers, manuals and utilities for your model from the Brother Solutions Center at Brother Software Downloads.
Double-click the Start Here OSX icon to install.
Follow the on-screen instructions - The installation of software is now complete.
Navigate to and double click on the P-touch Editor shortcut to open up a new label template.
Next is to Select Printer, you can do this by simply clicking on the arrows and selecting the Brother QL-720NW from the drop down list of available printers.
Next, click on the arrows to select the Media Size, you will be using Dk11204 labels, so the dimensions will be - 17 mm x 54 mm.
Be sure to select the Horizontal Text Box. Once that is done simply click on OK in the bottom right hand corner of the pop up box.
You will now have a template of a new label that you can the start creating.
To make things easier, click on the + in the top right hand corner of the screen, this will magnify the label so that you can see the spacing available to create the new product barcode.
Click on the "Insert Barcode" icon, showed below.
A pop up box will appear, by default the protocol is set to CODE39 which is correct. Enter in either the product code or specific numbers (maximum of 13 numbers allowed) into the Data field.
Once you have added the barcode data, click on OK.
Using the numbers entered, a unique barcode for that product will have been created.
Using the blue dots, you can now adjust the barcode height and length and adjust it so that it fits within the barcode babel parameters (grey lines running along the edge of the barcode).
You can now include the product description and pricing onto the barcode, so that your customers are aware of both the name and price of the product.
To do this simply click on the Text Tab ( Black A) in the top left hand corner of your screen.
Double click on the line and this will bring up a text field that can then be customized.
Under the tab - Text > Alignment - Select the Text: to be Centre and the Text Layout be Free Size.
Navigate and click on the tab - Font.
Here you can customize the Font, the Style and Size of the font used on your barcode label.
Once you are done selecting, click on OK to save your changes.
Once you have completed customizing the barcode label. Click on Print.
A pop Up box will appear, with the Printer set to Brother QL-720NW. Please select the number of barcode labels you would like printed followed by clicking on Print.
Your barcode label swill now start printing.
Once you have printed the barcode labels for your product, click on Save and enter in the barcode label name and where you would like to save it. This will ensure that you do not need to recreate the same barcode again in the future.
